For the past four weeks or so, I’ve been letting my readers into what this year will hold. From family to business, to ministry and investing. This year is exploding at the seams already and I’m beyond excited for the many avenues I get to walk into fully as God made me to do. Many of you have been along for the journey of My 10 Percent but it’s expanding in a fresh way that I’m excited to share.
My 10 Percent was birthed out of my own childhood experiences and created in me a deep desire to serve and love kids in the foster care system. Growing up I saw the kind of love and support foster children deserve as my mom raised 17 children alongside me. The trajectory of a child’s life hinges on who sees them and invests in them when they are young, and MY 10 Percent hopes to empower and see many who’ve been forgotten.
In the past, we have funded global educational and faith-building trips for forgotten youth, and more recently, I am exploring how I can partner with organizations already doing good work to reach forgotten youth. Recently, I was able to spend some time with Communities for People and I loved every second. I’m also partnered with a local group home in the Boston area, as well as, Pine Street Inn, an organization with a mission to end homelessness in Boston.
As I’ve been thinking about My 10 Percent, the verse came to mind where God is telling His people to essentially take their tithe to the storehouse and “try me.”
”Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!“
Malachi 3:10 NLT
As My 10 Percent continues to grow, I’m excited to share more opportunities with my readers to get involved. When you do, I want you to know that you are contributing to a ministry that is active in the community. In the coming days, My 10 Percent is going to be a ministry that encompasses so much. It will be an embodiment of supporters' gifts. It will be a platform that uplifts others and includes others. I never wanted this community to be limited to me and the work I’ve been able to accomplish, but I want my platform to be an open table for anyone who wants to plug in.
The Christian faith was a table that Jesus invited people to sit at, and similarly, I want my platform to be the same. To uplift others, give others hope, give people a place to be seen and heard, and plant a seed of faith in them moves mountains!
”You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”
